World Cup

The 2010 FIFA World Cup must have been on my brain when I rooted around my closet piecing this look together. In fact, when I was in high school I wanted to play for the girl's soccer team, however my AP classes wouldn't permit the required time for it. I wanted nothing more than to parade around campus with my soccer playing boyfriend in knee socks and cleats. I had a lot of energy and really desired to run it off on the field each afternoon with my friends.

La Dama T Dress. American Apparel shorts. Noir rings. Vintage turquoise cuff. La Dama studded ballet flats.

FIFA. Who are you cheering for? GOOOAAAAAL!

The cobwebby detail on the back of this t-shirt dress from La Dama was far too good to hide. I opted to wear it backwards to really showcase the design well. When I wear grey I enjoy mixing in shiny accessories to play off of it. Thus glittering rings, a 200 hundred year old vintage turquoise cuff and studded ballet flats converged.

Ps. Thank you so much for the Feature on my Collage work, Cat. :)

Check Mate

Jacket, Jeans- Forever 21. Bodysuit, American Apparel. Boots, Go Jane. Earrings, Ring- Vintage.

(Ph. December 2009)

When I'm stuck in a style rut I look to Alexis Bledel and Sarah Jessica Parker for inspiration. I believe a balanced blend of quirky and traditional initiated the Carrie Bradshaw or Rory Gilmore in every girl.

Reflections

As a blogger, I am most often asked a lot of different questions. Usually about my hair. What products do I use? How do I care for it? I'm also asked about the kind of makeup I wear on an everyday basis. So, I thought I would dedicate this post to all of my special readers and answer a few questions.

Hair Care: I am loyal to Pantene Pro-V for the shine and bounce infused into my tresses with every single rinse. John Freida tames any Frizz that Summer humidity may bring along with it. I have yet to deal with a tangle that Garnier Fructis conditioner could not restore and revitalize. Hana Shine Shield Thermal Protectant helps lock in moisture and strengthen hair (used best before) applying the stress of heat styling. I finish it all off with my Hana Professional Flat Iron 1" Pink Edition.

*Bonus: For stronger hair and lasting shine: Consume plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables and drink at least 5 glasses of water a day.

Image Sources: Google, and linked sites.

Everyday Makeup: Cover Girl foundation in Natural Beige, I prefer it in powder compact form. Black or brown eyeliner, swapping between Stila Kajal in Onyx and Soft Kohl in Sable Brown by Rimmel. I favor nude lipsticks and glosses such as the glossimers by Chanel. However, when I want to vamp things up, red is it. Royal Red by Maybelline (worn HERE) is my choice favorite followed by Hot Pink Schiap by Nars running a close second. I want to try Red Lizard by Nars next.

See more of this Outfit here.

Body: I was able to pamper my skin recently, courtesy of Aveeno and Lucky magazine. At first go, I slathered my legs and toes. Less than an hour later, this 24-Hour Ultra-Hydrating Whipped Souffle by Aveeno made me feel as if I had just left the spa, invigorating scent and all. The best part? It's packed with antioxidant-rich vitamins, soothing Shea and Cocoa butters plus nourishing Oatmeal.

Extras: Essie, American Apparel and OPI decorate my nails as of late. In rotation: Poppy, Van D'Go and Vodka & Caviar.

The Way We Met

Speaking of feeling at home, I always do when tuning into an episode of the Golden girls. I remember watching these as a kid with my Grandmother. To this day, she still laughs at the crazy escapades these four best friends seem to find themselves in. I was so happy to find that the show still goes strong with reruns on the Hallmark Channel during weekdays, late at night.

I was saddened to hear when Rue McClanahan recently passed on. The only Golden girl left is Rose, Betty White. I figured it would be nice to run a post in their honor.

What is your favorite episode?

Some of my favorite moments took place when all four met in the kitchen, to talk when they couldn't sleep, and snack on cheesecake.

Who is your favorite character?

I finally decided on the comical and sharp Southern belle that is Blanche Devereaux.

Rose Nylund, Blanche Devereaux, Sophia Petrillo, and Dorothy Zbornak

Although, the brassy Dorothy Zbornak never ceases to catch me off guard with her snappy comebacks, I'm often left in awe. Sophia Petrillo and her sarcasm always win me over with a giggle. And I can't help but feel bad for the naïve Rose Nylund who usually ends up as the butt of their many, many jokes.

I now realize that the Golden girls was simply a predecessor to Sex and The City. Trade New York for Miami and swap around the age brackets, however you are still left with friends who are always there for one another, with flair.

Watercolors

I was drawn in by the colors. "Last September IV" (acryclic on canvas) painted by Sam Gilliam.

Minimalism in large scale. I'm just sorry I couldn't manage to capture the entire work of Art.
"Pi" painted by Morris Louis.

The Madonna, Virgin Mary.

Louis XV, this young boy became the King of France at the age of five.

Seated Woman, Red and Yellow background. Painted by Picasso in 1952.

(Below) "Three Trees, Two Clouds" painted by John Beerman in 1990 channels an eerie beauty for me. Reminiscent of the too perfect neighborhoods in the films, Big Fish, and Edward Scissorhands. I wonder if Tim Burton influenced him at all?

(Below) Ursula von Rydinsgsvard Installs 19-Foot Cedar Sculpture. Ogromna, 2009. She creates her sculptures from 4-foot by 4-foot cedar blocks.

Topshop denim shirt, Volcom romper, Urban Outfitters bronze sandals, Rebecca Minkoff MAC bag.

I found another place where I feel at ease and completely comfortable, the Art Museum. I tend to gravitate towards quiet, wide open spaces where I can let my creative energy flow. I'm also partial to bookstores, classical music, libraries, and furniture galleries.

You can check out the video of the installation here.

Sparrow Song

I have been spellbound by pink since I was a little girl and recently by Sparrows due to the collection
from Miu Miu Spring 2010. This floaty top is the perfect union of the two.

Gina Tricot top (thanks to the helpful Ediot)

H&M leggings, Nike workout bra, Kate Spade grecian sandals.

Nails by OPI in Vodka & Caviar.

I'm delighted to share with you how I was recently chosen as one of the featured Stylists to answer questions on
What To Wear. Have a fashion question? Get a visual answer here.

Ps. I hope I'm not alone in admitting my addiction to Pretty Little Liars on ABC family it's the best un-kept secret on television right now. I'm so happy it debuted to great reviews. I'm a girly girl at heart with a hunger for gossip it seems... Tune in, if you haven't already.

I also have some extra elating news to reveal but mum's the word, for now...

Still more to come from Miami...

A-Tisket, A-Tasket

Part of the appeal of Summer is the Sun, beach, sand and all things ... Nautical! I remember first buying this dress for its adorable navy blue detailing, starchy fabric and flattering cut. I always admired it on Mischa Barton, too.

When I first started compiling items for Miami, I couldn't help packing this little dress in. A bit Cheerleader yet very Sailing ready, full steam ahead.

Forever 21 Sailor dress, Pierre Dumas sandals, Lisa Kathryn hair bow.
